Unity 3D Environment Artist / Level Designer

Contract, Remote (Anywhere, Pacific Time)

Stormforge is a stylized open-world survival crafting game where players craft, build, fight, and harness epic magical storms to survive.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, set dress and polish stylized environments and Points of Interest  in a procedurally generated world

  • Model and texture a wide variety of assets from modular building pieces to props, to “hero” assets that bring life to the world

  • Optimize models and props by creating LODs (Level of Detail) versions

  • Design and implement layouts that make sense for gameplay and take into account enemy AI limitations

  • Collaborate with concept, tech art, design, and engineering to maintain a cohesive style and solid runtime performance

  • Rapidly iterate in-engine, from blockout to shippable quality

Requirements

  • Strong portfolio of stylized game environments

  • 2+ years building environment art (outstanding juniors considered with exceptional portfolios)

  • Hands-on and very comfortable with Unity

  • Expert with 3D programs (Maya, Blender, ZBrush)

  • Strong art fundamentals: shape language, color, composition, visual hierarchy for readability

  • Good sense of gameplay and level design

Nice to Haves

  • Light C# scripting for triggers, events, and effect hooks

  • Prior shipped game, ideally on PC/Console

  • Familiarity with survival crafting games

Contract Details

  • Start: February 2026  End: October 2026 (could be extended)

  • 30 - 40 hours per week

  • Classification: Independent contractor; monthly invoicing; standard work-for-hire/IP assignment

  • Art tests: If requested, paid and scoped to ≤1 working day

  • Rate: based on experience and location; please include your expected hourly rate

  • Location: Remote (anywhere, team works on Pacific Time)
